MANUFACTURE OF PHOTOGRAPH COUPLER, WHICH CAN FORM WASHOUT COLORING MATTER

PURPOSE: To make possible removal of a dye produced from the coupler in photographic processing through washing it out and formation of an image improved in acutance at the same time by incorporating a specified processes in the method for manufacturing the coupler. CONSTITUTION: The coupler has a releasable group to be allowed to release a timing group by released electron transfer and its manufacture method comprises the following processes; (a) a process for providing a part of the coupler for holding the releasable group at a site for releasing coupling and providing the 2- or 4-position with an optionally substituted halomethyl group; (b) a process for allowing an optionally substituted hydroxyarylaldehyde or hydroxyarylketone in the presence of an alkylpyridine and a dipolar aprotic solvent with the halomethyl group to produce the first product, and (c) a process for reducing the first product and halogenated it and then allowing to react this with a photographic useful group to produce the washout photographic coupler.
