Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE: To release the photographic-useful group in its active form and to improve a photographic image by removing a blocking group for a photographic- useful group in the processing of the element, as a result of the reaction of the blocking group with a sulfite ion in a processing bath. CONSTITUTION: In this element consisting of a substrate which supports an emulsion layer of a combination of silver halides and a release compound, the release compound contains a carrier group and a photographic-useful group is released from the carrier group. The active function of the photographic-useful group is blocked with an aromatic nucleus that is unsubstituted or substituted by at least one electron attractive group. This blocking group can be removed in the process of processing the element, as a result of the reaction of the group with a sulfite ion in a processing bath. The element is exposed to actinic rays to form an image-like pattern and thereafter, the aromatic blocking group attached to an inhibitor is subjected to cleavage from the carrier group and an existing timing group of the release compound. Then, the element is processed in a processing composition contg. sulfite ions in an amount sufficient to subject such aromatic blocking groups to cleavage from the inhibitor molecules.
