Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To eliminate waste of heat energy of exhaust gas by preheating scrap of additional charge with exhaust gas generated from scrap of initial charge from one electric furnace in a melting period and preheating the scrap of the initial charge of the other electric furnace with exhaust gas generated in the melting period. CONSTITUTION:Exhaust gas generated from scrap of initial charge from a DC arc furnace 10 in a melting period is introduced to a preheating vessel 41, and scrap of additional charge previously charged in the vessel 41 is preheated. Exhaust gas generated from scrap of additional charge from the furnace 10 in a melting period is introduced to a DC arc furnace 20 through a duct 81, the scrap of the previously charged initial charge is preheated, and used as initial charge of the arc furnace as it is. Thus, heat energy of generated exhaust gas can be effectively used, and not only the scrap of the initial charge but also the scrap of the additional charge can be preheated.
