SILVER HALIDE EMULSION AND PHOTOSENSITIVE MATERIAL

PURPOSE:To provide a photosensitive material excellent in the aptitude of manufacture and improved in printing resistance by desalting a specified silver halide emulsion and then using it as a seed crystal emulsion. CONSTITUTION:The manufacturing process is divided into a seed crystal preparation process and a process including seed crystal grain growth step in the presence of the seed crystals, and this seed crystal preparation process comprises a grain-forming step including nucleus formation, ripening, and growth steps, and the following desalting and water rinsing steps. The process including the grain growth step comprises a step for further growing the silver halide grains in the presence of the seed crystals and steps for desalting and rinsing and chemical sensitization and the like. A silver halide emulsion containing silver halide grains having an aspect ratio of >=2.0 in a projection area of >=50% of those of the total silver halide grains is used as the seed crystals, and the emulsion to be prepared contains flat silver halide grains having an aspect ratio of >=3.0 and a diameter of >=0.8mum in terms of a true sphere in a projection area of >=50% of those of the total silver halide grains.
