Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To hydrogenate a conjugated diene polymer at good selectivity to a high degree of hydrogenation by using a polymer complex prepared by coordinating palladium with a nitrile-containing polymer as the hydrogenation catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The catalyst comprising a polymer complex is prepared by bringing a palladium compound into contact with a nitrile-containing polymer in the presence of a solvent. A desirable example of the nitrile-containing polymer is an acrylonitrile/butadiene copolymer. The palladium compound is not particularly limited so far as it is a bivalent or tetravalent palladium compound, and may be in the form of a salt, a complex salt or a complex.
