CUTTING DEVICE FOR OPTICAL FIBER

PURPOSE:To embody a cutting device for an optical fiber which lessens the transmission loss of light signals after connection and with which fracture surfaces having excellent mechanical strength are obtainable by cutting the fiber at the optimum fracture surfaces. CONSTITUTION:This cutting device has clamping means consisting of racks 23A, 23B for setting the variable spacing (a) of clamping bases 20A, 20B by which the optimum fracture surfaces are obtainable, a pinion to be meshed with these racks and retaining plates 38A, 38B, etc., fixing a coated fiber 10 on the clamping bases 20A, 20B after setting of the spacing (a), a scoring means consisting of a blade 72, etc., for scoring the clamped coated fiber 10 and a breaking means consisting of a pressing means 88, etc., moving forward and backward in the direction orthogonal with the coated fiber.
