CARD READER/WRITER DEVICE

PURPOSE:To provide a compact and inexpensive card reader/writer device by using a magnetic head which performs the recording/reproducing operations on a 2nd magnetic layer and also erases the remaining data on a 1st magnetic layer when the information is recorded and reproduced through the 2nd magnetic layer to eliminate an exclusive magnetic head that erases the data remaining on the 1st magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:The data are recorded on a 2nd magnetic layer 12B via a 1st magnetic layer 12A when the data are recorded on a magnetic card 12. Under such conditions, the recording tracks remain on the layer 12A and a faint alternate current of high frequency is supplied to the recording coil of a magnetic head 10, to erase the remaining data on the layer 12A. When the data recorded on the layer 12B are reproduced, a weak current is supplied to the recording coil of the head 10 so that the data recorded on the layer 12B are floated onto the layer 12A and then reproduced by the head 10. These floated data remain on the layer 12A as they are and, therefore, a faint current of high frequency is supplied to the recording coil of the head 10 to erase the remaining data out of the layer 12A.
