Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To provide a heat accumulator for an engine capable of promoting warming the engine while preventing a harmful influence of the heat accumulator. CONSTITUTION:In a cooling water passage 9, a heat accumulator, that is, a heat battery 10 is interposed so that a heat exchange can be performed with cooling water circulating in the cooling water passage. In the cooling water passage 9, a bypass passage 11 of bypassing the heat accumulator 10 is provided. In the downstream of the cooling water passage 9, a switching valve V3 is provided, and the downstream of the bypass passage 11 is connected to this valve V3. Further in the upstream and the downstream of the heat accumulator 10, temperature gages 12, 13 for detecting a cooling water temperature are mounted. At the time of cold starting an engine, switching valves V1, V2 are controlled so as to make only a cooling water passage 5 for a cylinder head and the cooling water passage 9 function. Further, a controller turns on a heater 15. Only when the cooling water temperature rises, that is, only in the case that the heat accumulator is placed in a condition that heat can be given to cooling water, the heat exchange with the cooling water is performed.
