Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To obtain a polyester composition capable of providing conjugate fiber stably in processes and further ultrafine fiber depending on the weight reduction with an alkali by melt mixing poly(ethylene terephthalate) with a sulfonate group-containing compound. CONSTITUTION:This polyester composition is obtained by melt mixing (A) poly(ethylene terephthalate) with (B) 2-10wt.% compound, expressed by formula I {M is metallic atom, preferably alkali metal or phosphonium expressed by the formula PR1R2R3R4 (R1 to R4 are alkyl or aryl); (m) and (n) are integers of >=1, with the proviso that [(m)+(n)] is an integer of >=120} and having sulfonate group (preferably a compound expressed by formula II, etc.). Furthermore, this conjugate fiber can be provided by carrying out the conjugate spinning at preferably (40:60) to (60:40) weight ratio of the phase of this composition to the phase of the component (A).
