Zusammenfassung: | In the liq. phase epoxidation reaction between an olefin and an organic hydroperoxide in a polar organic solvent in the presence of a soluble catalyst to give an olefin oxide and the alcohol corresp. to the hydroperoxide, an improvement is effected by (a) charging hydroperoxide, solvent, catalyst and a 1st olefin to a prim. reaction zone to form a reaction mixt., (b) maintaining the conditions, including pressure, to keep the mixt. in the liq. phase for conversion of 85-95% of the hydroperoxide, (c) recovering a prod. comprising unreacted 1st olefin, 1st olefin oxide, unreacted hydroperoxide, alcohol corresp. to the hydroperoxide, solvent, catalyst and side prods., (d) fractionating the mixt. to form (c) into (i) a prim. distillate fraction comprising unreacted 1st olefin and 1st olefin oxide, and (ii) a prim. liq. fraction contg. the remainder of the components of (c), (e) charging the prim. liq. fraction and a 2nd olefin to a sec. reaction zone to form a 2nd reaction mixt. and treating this as in (b) and (c) above, (f) recovering 1st olefin from the prim. distillate fraction and (g) recovering 2nd olefin oxide and alcohol from the sec. zone prod. |
