NEGATIVE ELECTRODE CHAMBER OF SODIUM-SULPHUR BATTERY

PURPOSE:To provide the negative electrode chamber of a sodium-sulphur battery for improving safety at damage to a solid electrolyte tube and for increasing initial discharging capacity. CONSTITUTION:A negative electrode chamber in a sodium ion-conductive solid electrolyte tube 1 is sealed by a negative electrode cover 3 and a negative electrode terminal 5. A rod-like collector terminal 6 is welded to the inner surface of the negative electrode terminal 5. A metal plate 7 is spirally wound on the collector termial 6. A bore hole-forming part 11 is provided at the suface keeping contact with the inner surface of the solid electrolyte tube 1 at the metal plate 7. Thus, the quantity of melted sodium supplied to the inner surface of the solid electrolyte tube due to the metal plate is restricted, improving safety at the time of breaking the solid electrolyte tube. The bore hole-forming part readily wets the inner surface of the solid electrolyte tube by the melted sodium, incresing initial discharging capacity.
