Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To improve the brightness or contrast of the display image of a screen surface. CONSTITUTION:This projection type liquid crystal display device has at least a light source 10, a reflection mirror 11 for imparting directivity in one direction to the photoirradiation from the light source 10 and a liquid crystal display panel 60 to be irradiated with the light from the light source 10 via the reflection mirror 11 and projects the transmitted light corresponding to the display patterns from the liquid crystal display panel 60. The reflection mirror 11 is so constituted that the region where the liquid crystal display panel side is irradiated with the irradiation light via the reflection mirror 11 is nearly made to coincide with the display pattern forming region of the liquid crystal display panel 60.
