Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To provide a new method for decorating glass in which the color of the glass surface can be changed into milky white or a color close thereto by ion exchange and decoration can be carried out so as to assume a marbly (ophiolitic) or a hexagonal pattern. CONSTITUTION:Sodium or potassium or both in glass are subjected to ion exchange with lithium to form innumerable fine cracks on the glass surface. Thereby, the color of the glass is changed into milky white. When the ion exchange is carried out until the fine cracks become those visible by the naked eye, an ophiolitic or a hexagonal pattern is assumed.
