TELEVISION RECEIVER

PURPOSE:To make specification of the cause of a fault easy by enabling a processing for inhibiting muting operation for a display image and an audio output. CONSTITUTION:A CPU 14, when not in service mode, performs processings other than a setting/releasing processing for muting inhibition. When it is decided that the CPU is in the service mode, it is decided whether or not a key corresponding to the setting or releasing of the muting inhibition mode of, for example, a remote commander RC is operated. When the key operation is not performed, processings other than the setting and releasing of muting inhibition are performed, but when the key operation is done, data are read out of a RAM to decide whether or not the muting inhibition mode is currently entered. When it is decided that the mode is the muting inhibition mode, data for turning-off the muting inhibition mode are transferred to a RAM 15, but when it is decided that the mode is not currently the muting inhibition mode, data for setting the muting inhibition mode are transferred to the RAM 15.
