Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE: To absorb hydrocarbon, particularly, low molecular alkene without being restricted by water in a system for converting exhaust gas. CONSTITUTION: A system 40 for converting exhaust gas is provided with a zeolite 42 upstream of a main conversion catalyst 46 and positioned close enough to an engine 44. The temperature of the zeolite reaches at least about 100 deg.C within a period of time of no longer than about 100 seconds after start up of the engine. The exhaust gas is contacted with the zeolite to cause the adsorption of hydrocarbons during that period. The zeolite has a SiO2 to Al2 O3 mole ratio of no greater than about 250 to 1, and pore openings of about 3.8 to about 6.0 A in diameter.
