Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE: To use a catalyst for reducing the amount and/or the sizes of the particles in the diesel engine fumes. CONSTITUTION: The catalyst containing a combination of zeolite having acidic characteristic with at least one kind of noble metals is used for reducing the amount of hydrocarbons and the amount and/or the sizes of the particles in the diesel engine fumes by bringing the catalyst into contact with the fumes. The catalyst may contain at least one element from group IIa in the periodic table and a rare earth element.
