Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To provide an information recording medium having excellent overwriting property for repeated use and high erasion ratio which enables recording erasing cycles with low power for recording and erasing. CONSTITUTION:This optical recording medium has a protective layer essentially consisting of AlN on a recording layer 3 on a substrate 1. The protective layer has a three-layer structure in which the first layer 4 consists of AlN, the third layer 6 consists of Al, and the second layer 5 has a medium compsn. between the first and third layers. Thus, strain in the protective layer due to temp. change is prevented.
