Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To execute smelting reduction operation for chromium ore in high productivity and high chromium yield while suppressing the erosion of refractory of a converter. CONSTITUTION:In this smelting reduction method for chromium ore with a converter type smelting reduction furnace, a top-blowing lance 6 having no center hole is used and the top-blowing oxygen quantity, etc., is adjusted so that flowing velocity VZ in the vertical direction of the top-blowing oxygen jet on the surface of molten metal 3 shown in the following equation, becomes 30-70m/s. VZ=(11.88Q/ndH), cos (thetaXpi/180) (m/s) wherein, n: denotes the number of nozzles in the top-blowing lance, d: a nozzle diameter in the top-blowing lance (m), H: lance height of the top-blowing lance (m), Q: top-blowing oxygen flow rate (Nm /s), theta: inclining angle of the nozzle to the center line of the top-blowing lance (rad).
