Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To obtain a catalytic converter for exhaust emission control which can heat whole of the device in a short time to a catalytic activation temperature with a low electric power, and show high purification performance. CONSTITUTION:A catalytic converter is composed of a main body 10 and an outer cylinder 3, which main body 10 is composed of a waved plate member 1 and a flat plate member 2. A through-hole 12 is formed on the waved plate member 1 on a downstream side 201, while a current passage 14 is formed between the through-hole 12 and an end edge 11. A joint area 4 is formed by connecting all or a part of each of the end edge 11 of the waved plate member 11 on its upstream side to an end edge 21 of the flat plate member 2. Heating current is supplied to the current passage 14 for heating. The upstream side is heated first, and the heating is accelerated by catalytic reaction. Thus, the downstream side is sequentially heated, followed by catalytic reaction. Whole of the device is heated in a short time, and high purification performance is early shown.
