Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To perform the vehicle speed control capable of coping with the gradient change of a downhill road. CONSTITUTION:A retarder control device is provided with a retarder 1, an operating lever 13 operated to activate or stop the retarder 1, a retarder control means 103 controlling the action state of the retarder 1 in response to the operation state of the operating lever 13, a vehicle speed detecting means 115, an acceleration/deceleration detecting means 101, and a target vehicle speed setting means 102 setting the vehicle speed when an accelerator pedal is kept off as the target vehicle speed. The retarder control means 103 is provided with a retarder load state control means 104 controlling the load state by the retarder 1 so that the detected vehicle speed becomes the target vehicle speed while the loading method by the retarder 1 is controlled in response to the detected acceleration/deceleration based on the detected results from the vehicle speed detecting means 115 and the acceleration/deceleration detecting means 101.
