Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To utilize a medium effectively by individually setting a recording capacity per one picture in response to a recording format. CONSTITUTION:Information selected by a recording format selection circuit 11 is fed to a microcomputer 9 and a signal changeover circuit 3 is selected. In the case of a monochromatic signal, the signal is written in a frame memory 12 via the circuit 3 and an A/D converter 14 and a picture and a format are recorded on a medium of a recorder 10. In the case of a composite signal, the signal is similarly processed via a comb-line filter 1, a decoder 2 and the circuit 3. In the case of an RGB signal, the signal is processed similarly via the circuit 3. The monochromatic signal with less data quantity is recorded with a small recording capacity by setting the recording capacity per one pattern and recording the signal based on recording format information to the microcomputer 9 resulting in increasing number of patterns, and the RGB signal requiring much data quantity has a few pattern number, but a sharp picture is obtained. Thus, the recording medium is effectively utilized. Then the signal is recorded by utilizing the feature of the recording format.
