METHOD AND DEVICE FOR REGISTERING AND RETRIEVING DOCUMENT

PURPOSE:To speedily record a document group and visually confirm a necessary document group by successively recording the document groups and adding retrieval information to each head document when the document groups are read, and displaying the head documents at the time of retrieval. CONSTITUTION:When documents are recorded, the documents are loaded in an automatic feeder 16 as one document group so that the head document is read first, and a CPU sends the documents in a scanner 18, sheet by sheet, and generates a number or symbol for identifying the document group. The scanner 18 reads the document group out of the head document and stores the head document in an image memory 36 and the remaining document group in an image memory 26. For retrieval, a retrieving means 20 retrieves the document number of the head document of the document group, reads the image of the corresponding head image out of the image memory 36, and displays it on an image display means 30. Consequently, when plural document groups are recorded, discrimination information on the document groups need not be inputted manually and a document group can be selected judging from the screen of the head document when retrieved.
