MANUFACTURE OF THERMAL PRINT HEAD

PURPOSE:To enhance the printing quality and function and prolong the life of a thermal head by forming warping so that a supporting substrate is made to form a recess part in the longitudinal direction, and thereafter forming films such as organic films on the substrate. CONSTITUTION:An organic material such as polyimide is applied on a metal substrate 21 as a supporting base body for a thermal head having the warp part so as to form a recess part in the longitudinal direction, and an organic layer 22 is provided. The mixture of Si, Zr, Al and the like is applied on the organic layer 22 by applying a sputtering method, and an insulating layer 23 is laminated. Then, a heating resistor layer 24, the electrode layers of an individual electrode 25a and a common electrode 25b are laminated thereon. It is preferable that the electrode layers are made of Al films. The warping amount is hardly changed because of the mallability of Al and the like. A protecting layer 26 is laminated so as to protect an opening part 24a of the heating resistor layer 24 held between the individual electrode 25a and the common electrode 25b. When these films are laminated, the warping of the metal substrate 21 is returned to the original state. The reason is caused by the action of the internal stress of each film.
