Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To charge a billet from the intermediate position of a furnace by a method which has little heat loss and does not generate scratch flaw on the billet. CONSTITUTION:In a walking beam type billet heatiang furnace 1 for alternately arranging fixed beams and mobile beams extending in a longitudinal direction in the furnace and transferring the billet 2, the intermediate charging hole 5 is opened at the side part of the intermediate position in the furnace. Further, the intermediate charging device is constituted of travelling rails 84 laid at orthogonally with the longitudinal direction toward the outer part from the intermediate charging hole, a charging machine 8 travelling on the rails, the fixed beam 7 chipped at this charging position and birected in the front and the rear sides and the mobile beam 6 in the furnace and a lifling beam 9 moving the vertically at the chipping part of the fixed beams.
