Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To provide the display having both of a transmission mode and a reflection mode in combination. CONSTITUTION:A polarizing element 14 with a linear phase element 13 on the rear light source 12 side of a liquid crystal panel 11 is installed to the rear light source 12 side without sticking this element to the liquid crystal panel 11. A polarizing element 15 over the entire surface (observer side) is stuck to the liquid crystal panel. A reflection element 18 built in with a polarizing element 16 and a linear phase element 17 is formed as a planar film and is so constituted as to be put into and out between the liquid crystal panel 11 and the rear light source 12. The display having a high display grade in both the reflection and transmission modes is obtd. by inserting the reflection planar film at the time of reflection and removing the film at the time of transmission according to such constitution.
