PURPOSE:To reduce a time required for the correction and to reduce the labor of an operator by providing a means for detecting a slit to an inputted character code string and completely correcting the character string within the range of the slit at every slit of the character string. CONSTITUTION:Information is inputted to the slit detecting means 7 from a reading result candidate selecting means 6. The slit detecting means 7 refers to a slit information table and detects the slit by deciding that there is the slit at a position where a single word having a grammatical attribute of the last of the slit is changed to a single word having the grammatical attribute of the tap of the slit. The priority is applied to the characters in the same slit by a reading result candidate priority applying means 8. The priority applying is carried out based on the priority of the respective characters in a character recognizing means 3.
