Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To provide a new tricyclic compound useful as an anti-histaminic agent or anti-allergic agent reduced in the side effects and having excellent selectivity. CONSTITUTION:A tricyclic compound of formula I (X is CH=CH, CH2O, O; R is lower alkyl; R is H, lower alkyl; (n) is 1-5) and its salt. For example, [N-[3-(5H-benzo[a,b]cyclophepten-5-ylidene)prpyl]-N-methylamino]acetic acid ethyl ester. The compound is obtained by reacting a compound of formula II with a compound of formula III or IV (Y is halogen) at 0-200 deg.C and, if necessary, hydrolyzing the reaction product with an acid or base in a solvent. The raw material of formula II includes 5-[3-(methylamino)propylindene]-5H- dibenzo[a,b]cycloheptene.
