Zusammenfassung: | PURPOSE:To obtain a catalyst for exhaust gas purification with high resistance against high temperature degradation in the presence of hydrocarbon under an excess oxygen atmosphere by allowing ZrO2 to bear a transition metal to be borne through ion exchange. CONSTITUTION:A monolithic carrier 4 such as cordierite having mutually indepedent flow paths is soaked in wash coat slurry consisting of aluminum nitrate, zirconia and water. Next, a surplus liquid is blown off a cell using a compressed air and is baked to obtain a zirconia layer 6 after drying. Further, this carrier is soaked in an aqueous solution such as of cobalt nitrate and the zirconia layer 6 is allowed to contain a transition metal 8. After this process, the carrier is dried and baked to carry the transition metal through ion exchange. The catalyst thus obtained is resistant against high temperature degradation by reducing nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas in the presence of an hydrocarbon under an excess oxygen atmosphere. |
