In a window lifter, especially in a motor vehicle, having at least one driver 16 engaging on the window pane and displaceable respectively along a guide rail 24, and a window-pane guide which, where appropriate in respective lifting positions of the window lifter, prevents tilting movements of the window pane about a tilting axis lying in the pane plane and perpendicular to the lifting direction, it is proposed that the driver 16 which can be moved along the guide rail 24 allows, in the respective lifting positions, an angle of inclination of the window pane 14 relative to the portion of the guide rail 24 respectively carrying the driver 16 and preferably a pivoting movement about a pivot axis essentially parallel to the window-pane plane and perpendicular to the lifting direction A. In this way, even non-cylindrical curved window panes can be used together with the window lifter; also, the orientation and/or curvature of the guide rail 24 can be different from the shape of the window-strip portion located opposite the guide rail 24.
