Zusammenfassung:NEW MATERIAL:An imidazoleurea compound expressed by formula I (R is H or 2-methylimidazolyl-ethyl). EXAMPLE:2-Methylimidazolyl-1-ehylurea (monourea derivative). USE:A curing agent for epoxy resins capable of exhibiting rapid curability and a relatively long pot life. PREPARATION:A 1-beta-aminoethyl-2-methylimidazole expressed by formula II is reacted with urea at 1:1 molar ratio while heating at 120-130 deg.C to give the compound (monourea derivative) expressed by formula I (R is H). A compound expressed by formula II and urea are heated at 2:1 molar ratio at 160 deg.C to afford the compound (bisurea derivative) expressed by formula I (R is 2- methylimidazolyl-ethyl). Alternatively, the compound expressed by formula II and CO2 gas in a larger amount than the theoretical amount are heated at 250 deg.C for 2 hr under pressure to afford the bisurea derivative expressed by formula I.
