The honeycomb catalytic converter 2 is equally divided in two vertically and it consists of an upper support 21 and a lower support 22. Rectangular vertical holes 23, 24 to insert the ribbon heater 3 into them are provided in a line on the upper support 21 and the lower support 22. Consequently, as the exothermic surface of the ribbon heater 3 is fit in the holes 23, 24 of the converter 2, most part of heat generated is efficiently transferred to the wall surface of the converter 2.
