Zusammenfassung: | PURPOSE:To efficiently transfer heat to the wall surface of a converter by arranging a ribbon heater on a support of the catalytic converter supporting a catalyst on divided honeycomb supports and an electrically insulated divided surface, and by fitting the ribbon heater in a hole provided on each of the divided supports. CONSTITUTION:An exhaust emission control device is furnished with a honeycomb catalytic converter 2 held in a converter case 1 and a ribbon heater 3. The converter case 1 has an exhaust inlet port 11 connected to an upstream exhaust passage and an exhaust outlet port 13 connected to a downstream exhaust passage, and a trunk part 12 is divided into a bottom part and a cover part in two. The honeycomb catalytic converter 2 is equally divided in two vertically and it consists of an upper support 21 and a lower support 22. Rectangular vertical holes 23, 24 to insert the ribbon heater 3 into them are provided in a line on the upper support 21 and the lower support 22. Consequently, as the exothermic surface of the ribbon heater 3 is fit in the holes 23, 24 of the converter 2, most part of heat generated is efficiently transferred to the wall surface of the converter 2. |
