PURPOSE:To extremely promote the reaction of electrolytic oxidation of CO and to extremely increase the cell voltage of a CO/O2 system fuel cell by using a solution to which the metal of platinum group (or metal ion) is added, as a solution for a fuel electrode. CONSTITUTION:The solution obtained by adding the platinum group of group of a periodic table represented by Pd and Rh to a solution containing the carbonyl complex of monovalent copper in the form of metal or metal ion is used as a liquid of a fuel electrode. The solution containing the carbonyl complex of monovalent copper is a solution which has at least monovalent copper and contains one or more kinds of alkali metal, ammonia and hydrogen as a cation and contains one or more kinds of halogen, silver sulfate and silver nitrate as an anion and has absorbed Co. As a compound which gives monovalent copper, particularly it is preferrable to use cuprous chloride. As a metal or metal ion of the platinum group of group, particularly palladium chloride and rhodium chloride are preferrable.
