DEVICE AND METHOD FOR MAGNETIC RECORDING

PURPOSE:To reproduce continuously without rewinding a magnetic tape by making it possible to record and reproduce bidirectionaly against the travelling direction of the magnetic tape by a magnetic head attached to a rotating drum. CONSTITUTION:The locus of the magnetic head when the magnetic tape 21 is travelled is the sum of vector of the travelling distance 26a, 26b of the magnetic tape; therefore, if the rotary direction 22a, 22b of the magnetic head is reversed when the travelling direction of the tape 21 is reverse, the locus 28a, 28b of the head becomes parallel and a high density recording is made possible. Then, the case of recording on the travelling direction 21a of the magnetic tape, the locus 23a of a first magnetic head and the locus 24a of a second magnetic head are recorded, and after skipping two track portion, the locus 23a, 24a are again recorded. In this case, if the diameter and the rotating speed of the drum are not changed, the travelling speed of the tape is doubled. Also, in the case of recording on the travelling direction of 21b, the locus 23b of the first magnetic head and the locus 24b of the second magnetic head are recorded when vacant.
