Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To produce a biodegradable foam which has low density, high elastic modulus and high compressive strength and is inexpensive and excellent in industrial productivity by thermally expanding a material comprising a polysaccharide and/or its derivative through injection molding, thereby providing a substitute for packaging materials which exert undesirable malinfluence on environmental protection, such as expanded polystyrene. CONSTITUTION:The objective biodegradable foam having low density, high elastic modulus and excellent compressive strength is produced by thermally expanding 100 pts. material consisting mainly of a polysaccharide and/or its derivative through injection molding in the presence of 5-45 pts. water and 0.01-20 pts. water-insoluble cell regulator which generates gas on heating.
