PURPOSE:To move and sort, every length of product, placed pieces of the number corresponding thereto. CONSTITUTION:An automatic sorting method comprises supplying products 9 to be sorted to a sorting conveyor 3 after placed at determined intervals; detecting the lengths of the products 9 on the sorting conveyor 3; and then obliquely moving the sorting conveyor 3 in the width corresponding to the corresponding length to send the products 9 to a preset branched passage. An automatic sorting device is provided with a carrying-in conveyor 1 of products; a separating conveyor 2 having a speed higher than that of the carrying-in conveyor 1, its start end side being continued to the terminal end side of the carrying end side of the carrying-in conveyor 1; a detector 10 for product length arranged on the sorting conveyor 3 on the terminal end side of the separating conveyor 2: a plurality of branched passages laid along the sides of the sorting conveyor 3: and a control device connected to the sorting conveyor 3 and the detector 10.
