Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To obtain a bar code remote reader having a wide reading distance range and a wide application field by irradiating a bar code whose irradiation is positioned by a visual means with reading laser beams from a remote distance through a telephoto optical system. CONSTITUTION:A switching mirror 31 is positioned with a 45 deg. inclination in the optical path of a reading laser beam L1 radiated to a bar code 4A arranged on a remote distance as a target. The image of the bar code 4A is transmitted to a finder 33 through a telephoto optical system 30, the switching mirror 31 and a reflection mirror 32. Thereby an operator can focus the bar code 4A and select the size of the image while positioning an irradiated point by adjusting the optical system 30. Then the mirror 31 is rotated up to an ON state so that the laser beam L1 is made incident upon the optical system 30. At the time, a laser beam L projected from a laser beam generating source 1 oscillates a light deflector 3A in the arrow B direction and the horizontal direction of an object is scanned by the reading laser beam L1.
