Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To prevent generation of scuffing and chatter even when pressing is applied to a position deviated from a rod center and a bending moment is thereby exerted on a rod. CONSTITUTION:In a hydraulic cylinder 11 wherein a piston 13 and a rod 14 are provided inside of a cylinder tube 12 and a rod cover 16 is fitted to an opening part of the cylinder tube 12, a packing fitting groove 30 is formed in the circumferential direction on an outside opening part side of an inner circumferential surface of the rod cover 16, a tapered part whose diameter is expanded toward the outside is formed in the inner circumferential surface from the packing fitting groove 30 to the outside opening part side, and low temperature salt bath nitriding is applied to an inner circumferential surface of a rod penetrating hole 15.
