Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To make the intensity of light made incident on a switch element uniform by increasing the diameter or width of optical waveguides stepwise with the distance from the light guide-in part of the optical waveguides. CONSTITUTION:A glass substrate 1 in which the optical waveguides 3 are embedded is provided with a step 3 crossing the optical waveguide 2. The wiring pattern 6 of a light emission element array is formed at the short part 4 of the step of the substrate 1 and on this wiring pattern 6, an end surface light emission type LED array 6 is stuck so that their light emission parts 7 face end surfaces 8 of the optical waveguides 2 one to one. The LEDs 5 are arranged with their active layers down and their upper electrodes 9 are coupled with other electrodes formed on the short part 4 of the step by bonding wires 10. The optical waveguides 2 which are embedded in the glass substrate 1 are formed widely at the light guide-in parts in the end surfaces 8 of the optical waveguides 2 and even when the LED array 5 shift in position laterally and slightly, light is coupled.
