PURPOSE:To prevent the condition that the gas is generated at the time of contact of a current collecting bar, which is inserted into a gel-like negative electrode, with zinc by iron, nickel, chrome and metal oxide adhering or biting to the surface of the current collecting bar during the processing and that the internal pressure of the battery rises to operate a safety valve and hinder the use of the battery. CONSTITUTION:A current collecting bar 8 is inserted into a gel-like negative electrode 4, which includes zinc and alkaline electrolyte, to form an alkaline dry battery. The current collecting bar 8 made of brass is processed into a linear shape by hot extrusion, and thereafter, mechanical skin peeling at 0.01mm or more of thickness is performed. The skin peeling can be performed by mechanical polishing.
