PURPOSE:To enable highly accurate detection of condition in shift to a standing leg phase from a playing leg phase and vice versa by arranging a switch so as to let a magnet approach or separate almost at the right angle with respect to the longitudinal direction of a lead with the stretching of a knee. CONSTITUTION:A lower thigh frame part 2 is linked to a thigh frame part 1 free to turn with a knee shaft 3 and an air cylinder 5 is driven or controlled to match a walking speed of a person wearing an artificial leg so that a delivery speed of the lower frame part 2 is controlled. In an artificial leg for a person having a thigh part amptated thus arranged, a switch body 11 of a switch 10 for detecting the walking speed is provided on the internal surface of the lower thigh frame part 2 near a one-hand stop 7 provided at the upper end of the lower thigh frame part 2. On the other hand, a magnet 12 for working the switch body 11 is provided at a lower part of the thigh frame part 1 at a position facing the switch body 11 so that both the parts 11 and 12 are positioned to contact each other with the knee being extended. This enables the detection of the slightest bending of the knee accurately.
