Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To provide a new compound having excellent controlling effect on plant blights, especially downy mildew and blast and useful as a fungicide agricultural and horticultural use. CONSTITUTION:The compound of formula I[R is cyano or thiocarbamoyl; Q is NQ Q (Q and Q are lower alkyl, lower alkynyl, etc.) or lower alkyl; X is H or halogen; Z is OCF2O, etc.]. The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting a 2-cyanobenzimidazole compound of formula II with a sulfonyl chloride derivative of the formula C1-SO2Q in the presence of a base (e.g. potassium carbonate) in a solvent (e.g. acetonitrile) at room temperature to refluxing temperature. The compound is useful as an agricultural and horticultural fungicide for plowed land, paddy field, orchard, tea plantation, pasture land, lawn, etc.
