Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE: To obtain a catalyst having high hydrogenating activity for hydrogenating aldehyde or the like and good resistance to acidic components by composing its compsn. of the combination of specified amounts of Cu-Al-Zr-Mn-O, controlling the dissolving amt. of the oxide form in the case it is dissolved into acetic acid to the one equal to or below the specified one and controlling the BET specific surface area to the specified value. CONSTITUTION: This catalyst substantially corresponds to the following characteristics, and the oxide form substantially corresponds to the compsn. of Cua Alb Zrc Mnd Ox [in the formula, a>0; b>0; c>=0; d>0; a>b/2; b>a/4; a>c; a>d are applied, and (x) is the number of oxygen ions needed per formula unit for electrical neutrality).
