Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To simplify the quality check of a medium by counting the number of a place where the reading output of a magnetic tape is below a specified value and the place where being below time exceeds specified time. CONSTITUTION:A first defect counting circuit 55 counting the place where the envelope of the reading output in the magnetic tape 50 is below the specified output value 51 is provided. The second defect counting circuit 56 counting the place where time when the envelope is below the specified output value 51 exceeds specified time 52 is provided. Fixed data is written in the magnetic tape 50, the output is read and result obtained by the first defect counting circuit 55 and the second defect counting circuit 56 are displayed in a medium diagnostic function 31 so that medium defect is detected.
