Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To obtain a composition for preventing and treating AIDS capable of preventing onset of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome by AIDS virus and simultane ously enhancing immune force and withstanding long-term successive application, entirely free from side effects or reduced in side effects. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition for preventing and treating AIDS contains an extraction fraction obtained by defatting a bark of Erythroxylumcatuaba Arr. Cam. and subjecting the bark to extraction treatment with hot water and an alkali aqueous solution. The defatted bark is extracted by a conventional lignin-like substance extracting method to provide four fractions: A hot water extracting fraction (Fr. I.) of bark of Erythroxylumcatuaba Arr. Cam. after sufficiently defatting with an alcohol, a precipitation fraction (Fr. II) obtained by extracting a remaining acidic substance with an alkali aqueous solution and adding an acid to the solution, a precipitation fraction (Fr. III) obtained by adding ethanol equivalent to its supernatant and a precipitation fraction (Fr. IV) obtained by adding ethanol of 5 times its supernatant to its supernatant. These fractions Fr. I and Fr. II in these four kinds of extract fractions of Erythroxylumcatuaba Arr. Cam. have properties capable of suppressing cell degeneration by infection of two kinds of causative virus [HIV-I and HIV-II] of AIDS to cell and onset of HIV antigen to the infected cell surface.
