MAGNETIC RECORDING AND REPRODUCING DEVICE

PURPOSE:To stably operate a reproducing system by stopping the erasing operation of a magnetic erasing head, recording erased data in an erased area, and completing a recording mode. CONSTITUTION:In a recording mode, an area ARE scanned by a magnetic erasing head 6A is scanned by a following magnetic recording and reproducing head 6B, prescribed recording currents IW are supplied to the head 6B after the polarity of the recording currents IW is switched according to input data DATA, the input data DATA are recorded through the head 6B in a prescribed recording medium. Then, the data erased by the head 6A are recorded in the area ARE erased by the head 6A, and the recording mode is completed. Moreover, at the time of recording the erased data, the recording currents IW are made to gradually fall to almost zero level.
