PURPOSE:To make it possible to detect HTLV-I and HTLV-II identifiably by analyzing human T-cell lukemia viruses(HTLV)-I and II in a specimen, and investigating in which of P-19 antigen or P-22 antigen a corresponding band is present. CONSTITUTION:Virus is analyzed by a Western blot technique, and in which of P-19 antigen or P-22 antigen a corresponding band appears is investigated. Thus, whether the virus is HTLV-I or HTLV-II is identified. A monoclonal antibody, which specifically reacts with only the HTLV-I, and a monoclonal antibody, which specifically reacts with both the HTLV-I and the HTLV-II, are found. The specific reaction between the monoclonal antibodies and the HTLV-I or II is utilized, and the HTLV-I and II under study are detected identifiably.
