Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE: To provide a method and an apparatus for monitoring the operation conditions of an adjustment and displacement mechanism for controlling an internal combustion engine, capable of obtaining more information for monitoring and controlling the engine. CONSTITUTION: An accelerator pedal (actuating member) 2 and a rod (transmission member) 3 forming an adjustment mechanism therewith form a mechanical connection. The pedal and the rod together form a force transmission path. A force sensor 8 is arranged within the force transmission path. Thus, it is possible to obtain pedal position information which constitutes the target of the position of an operation element 4 to be adjusted.
