Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE: To inspect operability of an oxygen probe heater arranged in a motor vehicle, especially in an exhaust gas channel of an internal combustion engine. CONSTITUTION: In order to precisely evaluate an operational state of an oxygen probe heater 11, it is necessary to determine temperature-dependent electrical resistance and temperatures of the heater. Therefore, the electric resistance of the oxygen probe heater 11 is measured when the oxygen probe heater 11 is cooled down to an ambient temperature. Whether the cool down has taken placed can be determined, for example, from the cool down of an engine block 22 or by a comparison of an engine block temperature 20 to an intake-air temperature 16. The operational state of the oxygen probe heater thus inspected is displayed to a driver and/or, if required, read into a fault memory.
