Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE: To provide a video cassette recorder which can easily record pictures by automatically selecting menus for programming by means of a VCR-PLUS function and a timer program function by means of a controller in accordance with the selection of either one system. CONSTITUTION: In a controller 110 composed of a microprocessor, a ROM 115 is provided with the control programs of both a timer program and a VCR- PLUS programming function and an EEPROM 117 stores automatic programming channel data, channel data inputted by a user, and VCR-PLUS channel mapping data. When the user wants to designate a specific date, time, and channel, the user gives a command to the controller 110 from a data input means 125. Namely, the user inputs one of scrambled and encoded numbers for VCR-PLUS or specific individual data for a timer program. The inputted number or data are displayed on a screen in accordance with an inputted instruction.
